SOOPAFITT FOR LIFE - TYPE I & II Diabetes COMBATING
"DIABETES MELLITUS"

I lost my Grandfather, Grandmother, and Mother to
"Diabetes"
and "Heart
Disease". When I was a 5 year-old my Grandfather suffered
a "Heart
Attack" and he was a young 57 years of age. My Grandmother
was laid to rest after losing both of her legs and a double “breast mastectomy”
in the war on” Diabetes” and “Cancer”. My Mama passed within 6 months of turning
the age of 48. The gist of it “Diabetes” destroyed the people I loved the most.
Those dreadfull events were devastating and difficult for anyone.
As an adolescent I could not fathom their reasoning: “Granddaddy died
because he had "sugar"..."Sugar Diabetes"”. Well, I loved sugar especially
at the age of 5 years old; “how did "sugar" kill Granddaddy” that was my primary question.
Secretly, I wondered if "sugar" would kill me. My intense curiosity and
inquisition of my parents, aunties, and uncles was overwhelming for
my family. The continuous questions seemed to frustrate my family
members and for valid reasons. Eventually, I stopped asking why
and how.
I am grateful for the education I have received at "Georgia
State University’s" Department of "Kinesiology & Health". The proper term is "Diabetes Mellitus" and certainly not "sugar" or "Sugar Diabetes". "Diabetes Mellitus" refers to "Type I Diabetes" and "Type II Diabetes".
"Type I Diabetes" is characterized by the destruction of "insulin" producing cells in the pancreas; and can be fatal unless injected with "insulin".
"Type II Diabetes" is characterized by "high blood sugar" and "glucose" levels that occurs from defects in "insulin" secretion, and excessive "glucagon" secretion.
At
last my questions were answered. Below are some weapons that can
be used in the war on “Diabetes Mellitus”.
